Celebrating Our Independence

Today we celebrate our country’s early leaders’ adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the formal declaration of independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Imagine those early leaders of the thirteen colonies, during the American Revolutionary war, coming together for the second time in the Second Continental Congress.  War had started the year before. First, the vote to approve the legal separation from the Kingdom occurred on July 2nd.  The statement explaining the decision was drafted, debated, revised and final approval of the document, we know as the Declaration of Independence, took place July 4th, 1776.

Today, two hundred and thirty-eight years later, we honor those early leaders’ courage.
