Proud of Our Passionate Employees

Were very proud of our Senior Project Manager Amanda Hibberts who volunteers as a board member of the PDCA Commercial Forum, in fact Amanda serves at the Chairwoman for this special interest group of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America.  Amanda is heading to New York City for the Forum’s Annual Conference this week. Two full days of presentations, round table discussions and contractor sharing with some of the best commercial painting contractors from across the United States and one from the United Kingdom.  Amanda is also sharing her industry knowledge as one of the presenters at the conference.

Way to go Amanda!  You bring great passion to everything you do.  The Commercial Forum is fortunate to have your involvement.  Everyone at A&K Painting is very proud of you.

The Ultimate Price – We Honor and Thank All Who Have Served Our Country

Memorial Day is about honoring those who served and paid the ultimate price, military men and women who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.  This Memorial Day at A&K Painting Company, we decided to honor our military men and women and their families with special camouflage company shirts. The occasion provided another team gathering for all of our employees and an opportunity to share our beliefs.

Celebrating Memorial Day may include a day at the races with the 52nd running of the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600, family cookouts and picnics, local pool openings or trip to the ‘sprayground’ at your local park. We’re sure this three day holiday weekend will be busy for you and yours.  With all that’s going on this busy holiday weekend, we will remember to reflect on the true reason for the day, the ultimate price.

Team Building Tournament

A&K Employee Team Building Cornhole TournamentWhat’s Cornhole all about?  At A&K Painting the best answer is Cornhole is all about Team Building.  Cornhole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing cornhole bags (cotton duck bags filled with feed corn) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. These platforms are usually made with plywood or plastic and are often decorated. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one landing on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a player reaches the score of 21.

We decided a cornhole tournament would provide a great team building experience at A&K.  All field crews and office staff worked the morning then met for lunch and then tournament play was on.

Cornhole can be played by just about anyone. Add in a bit of chance make participation by everyone an equalizer.   Our Glidden Professional Paints salesman, David Wilson provided the lunch in fact he brought the grill and grilled the burgers and hot dogs.

Buckets of Love Charity Project

In the summer of 2010 A&K Painting Company Inc. organized our first annual charity project for needy students/schools in their area. The purpose of the charity drive was to collect school supplies from vendors, customers, and other companies that work closely with A&K and deliver to them to the schools. The project was named “Buckets of Love”.

A&K Painting asked the school districts what the students and teachers needed the most. A school supply list was sent out with each collection bin to vendors and customers. These offices encouraged people passing through to drop off school supplies in the collection bins. A&K Painting purchased supplies to assure full buckets for our delivery to elementary schools.

After a couple of months the collection bins were picked up and the supplies were sorted. The school supplies were then put into 5 gallon paint buckets that lined the office hallway ready to be delivered to the schools. A&K Painting is proud to say that $2500 worth of school supplies were collected and distributed that day.

The buckets were delivered to Amay James Academy in Charlotte, NC and the Rock Hill School District in Rock Hill, SC. A&K employees were greeted with excitement and gratitude as the buckets arrived.

The students at Amay James were so thankful they made their own thank you cards and sent them to A&K Painting, where they hang proudly on each office door.

“Buckets of Love” was a complete success for A&K Painting and the students and teachers of Charlotte, NC and Rock Hill, SC. The company plans to organize this charity drive every year in hopes that it will grow bigger and be able to help the needs of students and teachers around the region.
